Upholstered pinboards
A board of plywood and cork, covered in linen or velvet and laid with a lattice of ribbon. Every crossing is held with a bronze upholstery pin. Any size up to eight feet by four.
Design your boardThe making
Each board is built up in layers, the way an upholsterer builds a chair seat. The plywood gives it a flat, rigid back that won't bow on the wall. Cork above it takes a pin and holds it.
A layer of wadding softens the face. The fabric is stretched over all three and fixed at the back, so the edges are clean on every side. Then the ribbon goes on, and a pin at every crossing keeps it taut.
The detail
The pins are driven through ribbon and fabric into the cork, so the lattice can't slip or slacken. Tuck cards, invitations, photographs and fabric cuttings behind the ribbon and they stay flat.
You'll see the exact number of pins for your board as you design it.
